Skincare and haircare have been an important part of my life for as long as I can remember. I was diagnosed with eczema as a kid, and spent more than a little time as a kid using every random cream, ointment and gel my dermatologist could throw at us.
All this time made me want to dedicate my life to all things hair and skin for black men and women. On this website we will cover what you need to know about haircare, skincare, and general grooming specifically for black skin and hair.

Hi there! And welcome to my website. My name is Khadija Brown and I’m the Founder and Editor of Cleverly Beauty. I started doing hair as a high school student and did the typical stint working at Sephora while putting myself through college.
Like most women, I was fascinated with my beautiful skin and the idea that I could keep it healthy and supple, even as I grow older.
I also faced the struggles that most black women have faced when it comes to my hair. I’ve done it all – gotten perms, gone natural, and done the big chop!
As you explore this site, you’ll find tons of helpful information regarding skin care, how-to posts designed to broaden your horizon, and buying guides with excellent recommendations.

Men's Grooming Editor and Researcher
My name is Travis Johnson and I lead up our focus on black men’s skincare, haircare and grooming. In my day job, I work on the corporate side of the beauty industry. On the personal side I have tried every beard oil, growth serum, and moisturizer you can find out there.
I met Khadija in college, and was thrilled when she asked me to come work with her! We think we can deliver the best skincare and haircare advice out there to black men and women, and have built a community of dermatologists, licensed estheticians, barbers, and one of the biggest hair salon owners in Dallas to serve as our experts to help us do just that.
I also lead up our research and SEO efforts as I focus on helping the site grow!
